Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information TabSplit ("we", "us") collects when you use the TabSplit mobile app and website, why we collect it, and the choices you have. TabSplit is built and run by Ankur Gupta, an independent developer based in India (not a company). You can reach TabSplit at support@tabsplit.online.

1. Information you give us

• Account details: your name, email address, phone number (optional) and password (stored only in hashed form). You can also add a profile photo or display name.
• Group and expense data: the groups you create or join, expenses you record (description, amount, currency, date, who paid and how it was split), notes, settlements and any receipts or files you attach.
• People you add: when you add someone to a group or send an invitation, we store the name, email address and/or phone number you provide for them so we can show them in the group and, where you provide an email address, send them an email invitation.
• Messages to us: anything you send when you contact support.

2. Your device contacts

If you grant permission, the app reads your device's contact list on your device so you can pick people to add. We do not upload your address book. Only the specific contacts you choose to add or invite are sent to our servers, as described above. You can withdraw contacts permission at any time in your device settings; the rest of the app keeps working.

3. Information collected automatically

• Sign-in data: authentication tokens that keep you signed in, and one-time codes emailed to you to verify your address or reset your password.
• Technical data: standard server logs such as IP address, device type, operating system, app version, and timestamps of requests, used for security and troubleshooting.

We do not sell your data and we do not use third-party advertising trackers in the app.

4. How we use information

• To create and secure your account and verify your email address.
• To provide the service: calculating balances, suggesting settlements, showing activity, and generating exports you request.
• To send invitations, notifications and service messages (for example, a password reset code).
• To prevent fraud and abuse, and to keep the service running and improve it.
• To meet legal obligations.

5. Who can see your information

• Other group members can see your name and profile, and the expenses, balances, settlements and receipts in groups you share with them.
• Anyone with a group share link you or a group admin create can view the information that link exposes, until the link is revoked.
• Service providers who host our servers and send emails on our behalf, under terms that limit their use of the data: Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (hosting and storage) and Resend (email delivery). We do not currently send SMS.
• Authorities, where required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.

6. Retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information within 30 days, except where we must keep it longer by law. Expenses you shared in a group may remain visible to other members of that group, attributed to a deleted user.

7. Security

Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS), passwords are hashed, and access to production systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can edit your profile in the app, and you can make any other request by emailing support@tabsplit.online. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.

9. Children

TabSplit is only for people aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if you believe someone under 18 has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. International transfers

Our servers are hosted by Oracle Cloud in Mumbai, India. If you use TabSplit from elsewhere, your information will be transferred to and processed there, with safeguards as required by law.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. If the changes are significant, we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
